Good Samaritan’s Action believes that education
is the best way to break the cycle of poverty
and therefore GSA is especially involved in this
area. Without education development is
impossible. It is the power where social and
economic development begins.
As we all know, the first day of school is a
magic moment in a child’s life, unfortunately
for the vast majority of poor Haitian children
this day might never be. In Haiti, schools are
clustered in cities, so children who live in
remote areas do not receive even a basic
education. It’s a shame to see our poor children
are still learning under “Ajoupas”. In the rainy
season school is not accessible. Children get
wet and distracted by what is going on outside
the classroom, and nothing can be kept secure in
them. Teachers are not comfortable teaching in
these temporary shelters.
Good Samaritan’s Action wants to offer to these
children a better way to get educated and make a
difference in their lives. The project purpose
is to enhance the early childhood care and
school of young children, particularly
disadvantaged children. This program supports a
number of education projects at Lascahobas and
La Gonave (Provinces of Haiti). These include:
-
Building and
repairing damaged schools
-
Promoting a healthy
and safe environment for children
-
Planned learning
activities appropriate to children’s age and
development
-
Training both new and
established teachers to monitor children’s
emotional, physical and spiritual care
-
Vocational training
for young people
-
Providing teacher’s
salaries,
school supplies, uniforms, nutritious meals,
snacks…
-
And more….
We want to make” going to school” enjoyable
and provide to these
children the skills they need to succeed in
life. They grew up to be farmers; we want them
to be teachers, doctors, nurses …
By providing education to under privileged girls
and boys, GSA’ educational program is
contributing to meet the goal of the “No
child left behind…”
